PBIS
PBIS
The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework is an evidence-based strategy designed to establish a shared understanding of behavioral expectations through consistent language and practices among both staff and students. This system enables schools to create supports that cater to the needs of every member of the school community.

Implementing PBIS leads to enhanced positive teaching and learning environments. A successful environment yields positive outcomes such as:
- Increased instructional time
- Improved academic performance
- Higher attendance rates
- Reduced time spent out of class
- Decreased problematic behaviors
- Fewer incidents of teacher-reported bullying and peer rejection

The essence of PBIS aligns with our vision for our students:
- To help develop socially responsible students.
- To help develop empowered and prepared students.
- To help develop authentically engaged students.
- To help develop passionate and Inquisitive students.
- To help develop effective communicators.
The core components of PBIS involve a proactive approach to teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors, rather than simply reacting to misbehavior. This includes establishing clear behavioral expectations, teaching these expectations to students, and consistently acknowledging and rewarding positive behavior.

- Tiered Support System: PBIS operates on a multi-tiered system of support, ensuring that all students receive the level of intervention that best meets their needs. The three tiers include universal interventions for all students, targeted interventions for groups of students who need additional support, and intensive interventions for individual students requiring personalized assistance.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Schools implementing PBIS frequently collect and analyze data to monitor student behavior and the effectiveness of interventions. This data-driven approach helps schools to make informed decisions and adjust strategies as needed.
- Collaborative Approach: PBIS encourages collaboration among educators, students, families, and the community. By working together, all stakeholders can contribute to a more cohesive and supportive learning environment.
- Focus on Positive Reinforcement: Rather than solely focusing on punishing negative behavior, PBIS emphasizes the importance of recognizing and reinforcing positive actions. This shift in focus helps to build a school culture where positive behavior is the norm and students feel valued and supported.

By integrating these practices, PBIS creates a school climate that fosters respect, responsibility, and safety, ultimately leading to a more harmonious and effective educational experience for everyone involved.
